11/14/23 The Grind Week

Well, the title says most of it. Not the easiest week with weather and a lot of canceled lessons but it still had good moments.

The Zone Leaders came and we did not have anything. So, 3 hours of street contact and not much happened. We contacted one guy from Sri Lanka. We invited him to church and gave him a card. Remember that for later. We also had a board game night and 5 people came. Compared to the last few times, that was pretty good. Also learned how to play a Chinese card game named 干瞪眼 (Gan Deng Yan) from a few Chinese people that came. Imagine playing scum but on a different level. It was fun and some moves in that game are crazy. Also taught/was taught how to play a Russian game called Durak (Idiot). It was fun to play and we all had a good time.

The rest of the week was slow except for Sunday. Now, that Sri Lankan I contacted was waiting in the parking lot with his family when we arrived. We let them in and started talking a little bit. As we talked, we discovered that they were members! Beneath our nose this whole time. Church was good and they all liked it. We also had another lesson with another Sri Lankan family as well. They are preparing to be baptized by the end of the month. Finland does get baptisms despite what everyone says. After the lesson, we had lunch with everyone who stayed after church. One of the members said "if there is enough for two, then there is also enough for three". So, a meal that was supposed to be for 6 ended up being for 15. There was some miracle there because we all were pretty full after.

We also had another dinner appointment with the Branch president and he made some good food. We also shared a short spiritual thought as well. It was from Elder Dale G. Renlund's talk Jesus Christ Is the Treasure. "He is our Savior and Redeemer, the "mark" to whom we should look, and our greatest treasure. As you come to Him, you will be rewarded with strength to face life's challenges, courage to do what is right, and the ability to fulfill your mission in mortality." As we always put Jesus Christ in the process and always remember Him as we go about the day, he can help us. Whether it's in school, at home, during a work shift, or just being with friends, Christ will help us in our everyday life.

Here's the rest in points:
- met a new friend during board game night. She is super interested in learning more. Had our first lesson yesterday and it went really well.
- we are teaching a Finnish lady too! It was a good first lesson and I went into hibernation mode for some reason. So, I caught only part of it. The catch is she is a 40 minute drive from Pori and we're figuring that out.
- Finnish is actually becoming a little easier to learn. I can pronounce it pretty well but comprehension is still getting there. Hieno asiat.
- lots of social media and contacting. The grind never stops even when the weather is bad.
- learned how to griddy. Interesting how I learn more about my generation out here than at home.

Hope you all are doing well and staying warm as the cold season comes.
The work awaits,
Vanhin Hsu
